eVTOL Insights has announced its first Final Friday ‘virtual networking’ event of 2022, which will take place on January 28th and feature industry presentations from Rolls-Royce Electrical and Airborne, a technology leader in advanced composites.

The sessions began in February 2021 and have been a great way for industry professionals to virtually connect and network face-to-face with contacts all over the world. Companies that have presented at previous events include Flight Crowd, Varon Vehicles, LuftCar, Astro Aerospace, Dufour Aerospace, AUTOFLUG, and the Community Air Mobility Initiative (CAMI).

Representing Airborne will be Jamie Snudden, who is the company’s business development manager for the UK. Enthusiastic about both new aviation and helping to reduce global emissions, both Jamie and Airborne support Advanced Air Mobility businesses to develop their airframes from initial concepts through to serial production.

With a PhD in aerospace engineering looking at recycling of composite materials and an MBA, Jamie’s interests lie in both the technological aspects of novel aerostructure development and the entrepreneurial and strategic aspects of a rapidly growing market.

Airborne is making good progress in the market and Jamie will talk about composites industrialisation, as well as the challenges of scale-up and industrialisation, and some solutions.

Our other speaker for January’s virtual networking event is Stefan Breunig, who is Head of Strategy at Rolls-Royce Electrical. He will provide an update on what the company is doing in the advanced air mobility space.

In particular, the company’s technology is set to power Vertical Aerospace’s flagship eVTOL aircraft, the VA4.

A Rolls-Royce electrical power system will be integrated into the piloted all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle, which will carry up to four passengers for 120 miles at cruise speeds of over 200mph and is on course to certify in 2024.

Rolls-Royce will design the system architecture of the whole electrical propulsion system, the electric power system that includes our latest 100kW-class lift and push electrical propulsion units, the power distribution and the monitoring system that will support operations.

Stefan is driving strategy definition and execution for Rolls-Royce’s electrification efforts in new emerging markets like Urban and Regional Air Mobility. He joined the Rolls-Royce team in 2019 with the acquisition of Siemens eAircraft where he previously worked as innovation manager. He holds a master’s degree and PhD in engineering.
