A Formula 1 team (name confidential) has ordered Airborne’s Kit by Light system to increase efficiency in the cutting and kitting process of composite materials.
Airborne’s Kit by Light system uses augmented reality and advanced algorithms to support operators in picking the plies and create sequenced kits, while minimising material waste and increase speed. The software provides an automated workflow and elimates the need for programming or by the team’s composites engineers. It allows to mix many parts in the nest to reduce material waste, without the trade off of requiring additional operator time for offloading and kitting.
In a high speed, cost capped industry where there is no time for inefficiency or waste like Formula 1, the Kit by Light system provides a low cost solution to free up cash for more important developments ánd speeds up the composites production process to get parts onto the track quicker and give F1 teams an important competitive edge.

Jamie Snudden, Airborne Head of Sales says: “We developed the Kit by Light system to solve the traditional dilemma between optimising for minimum material waste or for minimum operator time. Kit by Light provides you the opportunity to do both and is an easy way for high-mix composite production companies to save cost and improve productivity. In many case this system pays for itself in no time!”
