ICS 2024
We are excited to showcase our cutting-edge solutions that are revolutionising the industry at the International Composites Summit (ICS) 2024, Milton Keynes.
Airborne will be at the stand E16, right next to the centre stage, where our team will be available to showcase our latest technology developments and innovation for the future of Composites Manufacturing and Automation, and to discuss how it can help your particular business case.
This year we are proud to present our latest innovation: Kit By Light (KBL). A fully digitally assisted means of in-situ ply offloading, reducing waste and improving cutting-room efficiency.
Discover Kit by Light
Kit by Light is a system that enables an efficient processing of highly mixed nests of plies. Guiding the operator through the task of creating kits of sequenced plies within a minimum number of handling steps.
Due to its unique algorithm, Kit by Light easily translates the nest information into work methods in two steps:
- Operator offloads the cutter and places the plies in sub-stacks. These sub-stacks are defined as such that the plies can be placed directly in the right sequence.
- Once the kit is finished, the operator takes all the sub-stacks in a prescribed order and creates the full kit, with all the plies in the right sequence. This sequenced kit is then ready to be laminated.
The offloading, sorting and sequencing of plies is done by means of projection-based Augmented Reality (AR). It has a projection system that guides the operator by displaying which plies to pick from the cutter and where to place them. Every step is digitally controlled by the system.
As a result businesses can benefit from the following:
- 25% or higher wastage reduction due to higher nest efficiency and combination.
- Reduced error cost by 20% with immediate effect on downstream process.
- 60% floorspace cost saved due to dynamic storage.
- Decreased labour cost by 40% due to high efficiency operations.
- Output increased by 65%,cutter up and running while sorting and sequencing.
- Increased capacity for additional work and ramp-up programs
