At the CAMX 2022 the Airborne team will be happy to show our latest features for the Future of Composites Manufacturing.

This year Airborne brings their Automated Ply Placement solutions as well as their Automated Edge Sealing solutions. Their solutions will be on video display at the CAMX booth in Hall C, W62.

This year Airborne is also selected for their Paper Presentation. Airborne’s Commercial Director Joe Summers will be presenting at the CAMX stage our view on High Rate Automated Preforming for Battery Boxes.

CAMX Session 2022 Presentation

Joe Summers will present the Airborne paper about the results of a 3 year collaborative R&D project conducted in the UK funded by Innovate UK through the Automotive Propulsion Centre (APC). The partners were Airborne; Sigmatex; JaguarLandrover; Nissan; GKN Wheels & Structures; AMRC; and Cranfield University. The focus of the paper will be the development, by Airborne, of a high rate preforming process to take the Sigmatex raw materials, and convert that into a stable, 3D preforms ready for RTM processing by the Tier 1 with 2 minute TAKT time.

Automated Ply Placement

The system converts rolls of materials into freeform, multi-material, tailored blank laminates using the Automated Ply Placement technology: plies are cut into the right shape and with advanced pick and place technology the tailored blank laminate is created.

Automated Edge Sealing

Our Automated Edge Sealing system applies the resin precisely and can follow the thickness variations of the composite part. All 3D robot path planning is generated automatically to be able to handle many different part geometries.

Automated Preforming

By automating the production of preforms, you can match the rate of follow-on processes and significantly reduce manual labour. Automation of preforming ensures high volume production at constant quality.
