[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]On May 4th it was announced that Airborne Aerospace had won 2nd place in the innoSpace Airbus Defence and Space challenge, during the awards ceremony held as part of the first INNOspace Masters Conference in Berlin. For this challenge, innovators in the space industry were invited to submit their proposals and concepts for the New Space Economy.

The competition was divided in three categories which were related to different phases of development and production in aerospace missions. The DLR Space Administration Challenge focused on the R&D stage, while the Airbus Defence & Space Challenge called for proposals involving solutions that are ready for implementation today. The ESA BIC Startup Challenge, meanwhile, was centred on market-ready prototypes created during the ramp-up phase.

Airborne competed in the Airbus Defence and Space category, for which Airbus DS was seeking innovative ideas along its complete satellite value chain, with the major focus on the application of industrial standards & processes. Airborne won second place with its disruptive concept for low-CAPEX, flexible and integrated composites automation solutions for satellite structures, which answers to the need for high-volume, low cost satellite manufacture that is generated by New Space demand in their quest for mega-constellations.
