Automated Honeycomb Potting

Our Automated Honeycomb Potting system automatically applies potting material for local reinforcements in honeycomb sandwich panels. The robotic system saves labour cost, is more accurate and has a seamless automated workflow, from design to automated manufacturing. The use of high performance fiber reinforced composites as the compound material, offers users high strength-to-weight properties and is particularly suitable as a core material for production of sandwich structures.

How does automated filling of honeycomb blanks work?

Our automated solutions for honeycomb dispensing are designed to efficiently and accurately fill honeycomb blanks with potting paste or compounds via an automated platform. This is also known as ‘filling’ or ‘dosing’ of potting material and strengthens local reinforcement. The workflow is automated from design to manufacturing. Any shape of potting geometry can be realised and the machine code is automatically generated by our smart software.

We  have three standard solutions for Automated Honeycomb Potting:

Working Bee – gantry based (small)

The Working Bee is our smallest and most affordable solution and based on a 2D gantry. It fits within 21m2 floor area and is developed for potting of flat honeycomb panels.

Bumble Bee – robot based (medium)

The Bumble Bee is our midrange system and is based on a flexible robot platform. It can do both 2D and 3D potting which is ideal for more complex interior and structural sandwich panels. It’s also a good solution if you want to start with 2D potting but want to keep the option open to later add 3D potting.

Honey Bee – robot based – 2 working areas (large)

If you need maximum productivity, the Honey Bee is your best choice. It has a robot on a track that has two separate working areas. While the system is potting in one area, the honeycomb panels can already be prepared or offloaded in the second area.

All systems can be equipped with one-  or two-component resin dosing systems.
